Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support to the body. We need essential nutrients, such as minerals along with fats or proteins with other vitamins for our body to work, grow and repair itself. The kind of food we eat can affect the efficiency of these processes. Take a look at a man’s plate and you will know exactly who he is and who he hopes to be. According to Ayurveda, the sense of taste is a natural guide map towards proper nutrition. Over the period of time humans have identified healthy food depending on the taste, but gradually they understood that our taste buds do much more than simply providing us good taste, they also provide us the nutritive value of foods. Though we humans usually prefer tasty food, equal care must be taken regarding nutrition derived from them.Food is the basis of life; what we eat makes up our physical, emotional and social selves. The main sources for deriving sweet taste are fruits, grains, natural sugar, milk etc.

It helps in building body’s seven vital tissues as it increases the moisture and weight of the body. Sour taste energizes the body, strengthens the heart, improves the digestion system, maintains acidity, extracts iron from the food and sharpens the senses. It is commonly found in citrus fruits such as lemon and limes, sour milk products like yogurt, cheese, sour cream. It is also found in pickles, wine, vinegar and soy sauce.Salt is found in almost every food .It is in low or less to moderate proportions just simply to enhance flavor. However eating pure salt is regarded as highly unpleasant. Salty taste improves the flavor and taste of food, helps in digestion, maintains mineral balance, aids in the eradication of wastes, and calms the nerves. Salt has a tendency to attract water, thus it improves the radiance of the skin and promotes overall growth in the body. Bitter taste is found in spinach, cabbage, kale and other green leafy vegetables, and also in other vegetables such as eggplant and zucchini.

Certain herbs and spices like turmeric, fenugreek, and dandelion root and coffee, tea, and fruits such as grapefruits, olives, and melon are also bitter in taste. While Bitter taste is often not appealing alone, it stimulates the appetite and helps bring out the flavor of the other tastes.In modern world the importance of personalizing is increasing and food is no exception. Diet also needs to be personalized to take into account individual body types. Food with the opposite properties need to eaten to balance the diet. Freshly cooked food should be eaten in balance quantity, so as to suit ones consumption and temperament.The taste of food is equally important along with its super presentation. An eye-appealing food presentation can encourage people to consume foods. Even if the food prepared is not satisfactory but if its presented in a clean and appealing way it will give a good flavour and people will still want to try it. Nowadays many restaurants have come up with different ways of presenting food. The food will remain the same but the ways will be different.
